The Crawley Green School Uniform.
We want our children to look smart when at school and feel proud to wear their uniform. We believe that having a school uniform promotes a sense of belonging and community.
Our winter uniform:
- Crawley Green Infant School blue sweatshirt or cardigan.
- White polo shirt.
- Grey trousers, skirt or tunic.
- White or grey socks or tights.
- Black school shoes.
Our summer uniform.
When the weather is warmer, children may wear blue and white gingham dresses or grey shorts as an alternative to skirts, tunics or trousers.
Our school book bag.
Our book bag is the only bag we specify in our uniform policy. These bags fit into our classroom drawers and are used daily. Children do not need rucksacks in school and we do not have the storage for them.
PE / Sports.
We do not expect items for PE to be branded but have the following expectations:
For indoor lessons: plain white polo/ t-shirts and plain blue shorts .
For outdoor lessons: Plain white polo/ t-shirts, plain blue, or dark jogging bottoms and sweatshirt, trainers or plimsolls.
PE kit can be stored in a drawstring sports bag. A branded version is available to purchase from the school’s uniform provider, yet we accept any non branded drawstring bags for PE Kit which can be purchased from many high street or online retailers.
Hair.
Long hair must be tied back. We do not allow dyed hair, or patterns shaved into the hair.
Jewellery.
Only one pair of plain stud earrings may be worn in the lobes of the ears and these must not be worn a day your child has PE. Any other jewellery is not allowed for health and safety reasons.
Footwear.
We expect children to wear plain black shoes to school which are sturdy and support their feet. Shoes must cover children’s toes during all seasons for health and safety reasons. Shoes must be suitable for children to move around safely. No high heels or boots are allowed in school.
Coats and other items.
During cold weather we expect children to come to school wearing a coat. We do not have a requirement for colour, only that this is practical and warm, with age appropriate images or wording.
No make-up, nail varnish or stick-on tattoos are allowed to be worn at school.
Purchasing school uniform.
Our branded (school logo) items can be purchased from Prestige Design & Workwear Ltd which can be found at the link below:
Items which we do not expect to be branded but in line with our colour and style as described within this policy, can be bought from supermarkets and other retailers.
Uniform can also be obtained free from the Level Trust which can be found through this link:
Limiting the cost of school uniform.
Our school has a duty to make sure that the uniform we require is affordable, in line with statutory guidance from the Department for Education on the cost of school uniform.
We understand that items with distinctive characteristics (such as branded items, or items that have to have a school logo or a unique fabric/colour/design) cannot be purchased from a wide range of retailers and that requiring many such items limits parents’ ability to ‘shop around’ for a low price. Therefore the only items we expect to have our school logo on are our school sweatshirts, cardigans and book bags. If parents do have difficulty with this then other non-branded sweatshirts and cardigans of the same colour are available from other retailers, yet we do encourage these items to display the school logo where possible.
Other items need not be branded yet may be available if parents wish to purchase them. Other items which do not require a logo will simply need to be in line with the colour and style of uniform expected, as detailed within this policy.
We ensure that arrangements are in place for parents to acquire second-hand uniform items free of the charge through the Level Trust. We also host second hand uniform sales intermittently during the school year.
When uniform specifications are changed we aim to minimise the financial impact on parents by “phasing out” old specifications to allow children to wear the previous uniform until they have outgrown it.
